01

The Cultural Education Challenge

Create: our Young Steering Group developed and managed a film and digital festival, while students at Oldham schools produced short films and digital art.

Compose: young people composed digital sound art with Sonic Bloom, professional artists chosen by the steering group.

Perform: students performed in front of the camera making short films and in stroboscopic photography workshops.

Visit, experience, participate: young people from 3 to 24 visited Gallery Oldham and Oldham Libraries and explored sonic art, film making, performance, screenings and photography.

Know, understand and review: the steering group researched, evaluated and reviewed the festival, and school groups reviewed films in workshops.

02

Towards the creative industries

All workshops were run by professional artists chosen by young people. School participants worked towards Bronze Arts Award, steering group members towards Gold and Silver, and over 20 people gained Discover Arts Award on the day.

Every member of the steering group gained experience of building, managing and evaluating a digital and film festival - a step towards careers in the creative industries.

Thank you

A big thank you to Gallery Oldham, Oldham Libraries, The Small Cinema Oldham, Oldham schools and other groups for their help and partnership.
